In June 2017 the Seaboard Memorial Hall were awarded £10,000 for our project ‘Lives, Loves & Fishing’. The aims of the project were to create a permanent display area for the photographs, artifacts and footage collected through previous projects and initiatives to preserve the heritage of the Seaboard.
We used the money to revamp our reception area. Our aim was to make it more inviting and informative to our patrons and visitors to the area. Giving everyone a snapshot of life in the Seaboard through our collected archives.

We removed the imposing reception desk; filled the holes in walls; replaced the flooring throughout the hallway and commissioned some interpretation boards for display. We have been delighted to hear the positive comments from our regular visitors, tourists and new people to the area.

Another lasting legacy of the project was to create an educational
l pack about the Lives, Loves and Fishing in the Seaboard. We named this ‘Know Your Place’. The purpose of the pack is to raise awareness and instil a pride about our villages. It suggests differentiated activities to engage people/children to learn about our heritage and compare it to life now. Click on the link to access the pdf file.

We invited the Seaboard community to a social open evening to officially reveal the new dedicated area for our social history. During the evening visitors were treated to live music, screenings of the Feis Rois Belle Anne film, access to all of the collected archives and refreshments of cheese and wine.
Researching Vass Family. I have been told that Hugh Vass married Catharine ? In 1913 but can find no record of this anywhere! Hugh was the son ( I believe) of John Vass (born 1852) and Isabella Skinner (born 1852) Can anyone help me with this search. My daughter is pregnant, her child will be the great great great grand child of John and Isabella.
